Frequently Asked Questions

Social Distancing

Are parents required to stay on site?

No, parents are not required to stay on site. The Grove is a drop-off homeschool program, meaning students attend independently under the care and guidance of our trusted, experienced staff. This allows parents time for work, errands, rest, or teaching other children at home—while their student enjoys a safe, structured day of learning, play, and friendship.

Am I still my student's teacher?

Yes! At The Grove, you remain your child’s primary teacher. While we provide enriching, hands-on instruction during their time with us, we do not maintain official grades or attendance records. As a parent, you are responsible for overseeing your student’s overall education, tracking their progress, and ensuring compliance with Missouri homeschool laws. Our role is to support and enhance your homeschool journey—not replace it—through quality programming, community connection, and meaningful learning experiences.

What are the benefits of the one room schoolhouse approach?

Learning Alphabets

The one-room schoolhouse model at The Grove creates a rich, community-centered learning environment where students of multiple ages learn and grow together. This multi-age approach fosters a strong sense of belonging, as older students naturally take on leadership roles and younger students benefit from their example. Learning is scaffolded across ages, allowing students to revisit and deepen their understanding of concepts over time. Instead of being grouped strictly by grade, students are placed in small, skill-based groups (such as Pre-Reader, Early Reader, Early Elementary, Upper Elementary, and Middle School), ensuring they’re challenged at their own pace. Peer-to-peer learning happens organically, building confidence, communication skills, and a collaborative spirit. This model also offers the flexibility for students to progress in areas of strength and receive extra support where needed, all while preparing them for real-world environments where people of all ages work and learn together.

Do I need to purchase any curriculum?

No, you do not need to purchase any additional curriculum for your child to participate in The Grove. We use the Gather 'Round Homeschool curriculum, which is specifically designed for a multi-age, one-room schoolhouse approach—allowing us to teach one engaging lesson to the whole group, with assignments tailored by skill level. All curriculum and classroom supplies are included with your enrollment fee, making it simple and seamless for families to jump in without extra planning or expense.

What hours are classes in session?

The Grove is in session Monday through Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Drop-off takes place between 8:45 and 9:00 AM, and pick-up is scheduled between 2:45 and 3:00 PM. We ask that families arrive on time to help us start and end the day smoothly and ensure a consistent experience for all students.

What will an average day look like?

A day at The Grove is filled with meaningful learning, friendship, and community connection. Students begin the day with a morning devotional, setting a peaceful and Christ-centered tone. We then dive into our Gather 'Round Homeschool curriculum, with multi-age lessons followed by skill-based small group work. Midday, students enjoy a sack lunch from home, often chatting and laughing with friends. Afternoons may include activities like reading with reading buddies, creative enrichment projects, or life skills practice. On certain days, we take a walk to the local library, often escorted by our friends from the Odessa Police Department, giving students a chance to connect with local helpers and explore their community safely. Each day is thoughtfully designed to balance structure, creativity, and relationship-building—helping students grow in both knowledge and character.
